The Hacienda Santa Rosa is located in the ancient caciquism of Ah-Canul. Some Pre-Hispanic vestiges still remain at Chunchucmil.
The high sisal production of the region of Maxcanú caused that important sisal haciendas were established there towards the end of the 19th. Century and the beginning of the 20th.. The oldest was Granada, then Santa Rosa, and later on Kochol, Santo Domingo and Chunchucmil.
The Garcia Fajardo brothers owned this hacienda in 1899, as attested by the initials that are distinguishable on the chimney. In addition to being a productive installation, it was one of the most prosperous, the hacienda was the country estate of this family. It is interesting to read what a relative wrote about the ambience of the place in those times.
The hacienda is notable for the architectural quality of its main house, which was remodeled several times and in the buildings one can appreciate colonial, neoclassic and modern elements; in general the lines are sober, of great austerity, which provides a special charm.
The hacienda used to have all the comforts and services, and in the restoration the original ambience of the draw-well and its loading platform, the water tank and the dressing room was preserved. The unique water tank, that still surprises us for its excellent design, allows one to take a swim and cool off under the hot sun, but it also offers the possibility of taking refuge in its cool water. The family of the owner could watch the horses grazing in the main corral, on which they rode to visit the neighboring haciendas such as Chunchucmil, Santa María Acú and Sihó. The exuberant vegetation of the patios, gardens and orchard make for a more pleasant stay.
